Sunday-after-Easter Festival
As suggested by its name, the Sunday-after-Easter festival is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Sometimes it is also referred to as “Minor Easter”, especially by children. Eggs are painted on this day, but only children have a right to roll and break them. On this day the Narrow Gauge Railway offers a cheerful festival by inviting everyone to come for a picnic in Kuzmiškis forest. Of course, a fire was started and folk dances were organized. Those who were too lazy dance could simply warm their bodies tasting hot wine and thyme tea. Fire grilled shashlyk (a meat dish similar to kebab) was served. Many had taken painted eggs to this trip, but as it turned out, they were able to see very special eggs in the Kuzmiškis Forest, those by the Žažumbris dragon eggs! The legend has it that dragons were hatched from eggs placed under the roots of the Žažumbris oak. The dragons appeared in this festival also and as it turned out later they were excellent music performers. Photos Andrius Repšys
