Cheese degustation at Surdegis station

In the afternoon of December 8, Lithuanian narrow gauge railway invited everyone to go to the cheese degustation. The best cheeses were tasted at Surdegis Station. Surdegis was chosen on purpose. According to the legend, once upon a time not too far away from this place there was a manor. Shepherds used to drive cattle there, once built fire to grill some cheese. By distraction they burned the cheese. Since then, the place was called Surdegis (in English burned cheese).

Siaurukas brought around 50 people to the cheese degustation. On their way to the station, they enjoyed accordion music. Cozy and warm environment, the light of the fire, the sounds of flute and three cheerful cheese presenters welcomed the guests on arrival.

While one of the cheese presenters spoke about the origin, history and the peculiarities of the production of cheeses, other two chopped huge pieces of cheese.

The guests were tempted not only authentic atmosphere of the station but also the table full of cheeses. During the degustation 4 cheeses were introduced: all the four were accompanied by grapes, olives, wine and olive oil with balsamic vinegar.
