Train of the Veterans of Lithuanian Narrow Gauge Railway – SIAURUKAS
Siaurukas, which celebrates its 110th anniversary this year, invited all the former employees to Surdegis Narrow Gauge Railway Station. Two trains departed for this trip: from Panevėžys and Anykščiai. A train from Panevėžys brought former employees from Panevėžys and neighbouring towns of Joniškėlis, Pakruojis, Pasvalys and Biržai. The train with the passangers from Vilnius, Švenčionėliai, Utena and Anykščiai departed from Anykščiai Railway Station. Utena County Governor Egidijus Puodžiukas, Panevėžys County Governor Viktor Trofimov, Vice-mayor of Pakruojis Romas Medzveckas and a member of a council of P/I Railway Veterans Tautvydas Sinkevičius took part at the event and congratulated the those who worked at the narrow gauge railway. Guests from a company Lietuvos geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) Railways Infrastructure Administration, Head of Assets Office Česlovas Norkus and Rimantas Jogėla Railways Infrastructure Administration, foreman deputy of Assets Office not only wished all the best to siaurukas but also gave a present – an impressive railway engine from amber. The guests shared the reminiscence, talked about the possibilities of the reconstruction of the northern narrow gauge railway line. Participants of the event had a possibility to meet with each other, have a chat with collegues, to talk with the present narrow gauge railway personnel. Organizers of the event offered some grilled meat and sausages, great Lithuanian cheese, fruit and snacks. The meals were accompanied by a Lithuanian fruit wine Voruta and a traditional drink of siaurukas. Writer Rimantas Vanagas who took part at the event had a possibility to speak to people and listen to the stories about siaurukas. All the stories will be published in a book Adventures of Siaurukas.
