St' Anthony's Train
Saint Anthony’s train brought its passengers to the Saint Anthony’s festival in a village of Troškūnai. Everything that day was shining: the weather was fair only from time to time the sun would hide behind white fluffy clouds, calm and bright faces of old women with their white shawls, white walls of church and monastery, little girls dressed in white, ready for their first communion. The colours of traditional folk art fair attracted the attention of passersby. After the Mass, which was offered by priest Saulius Filipavičius, the festival moved to the churchyard. Eucharistic procession around the St. Trinity Church started, irresistible beauty of which could only be felt by those taking part in it.
Siaurukas also brought a chamber orchestra from Panevėžys Juozas Balčikonis Gymnasium. Students arranged a concert at the church which was a small symbolic gift of the gymnasium, remembering the fact that the gymnasium first was located in Troškūnai and only later moved to Panevėžys. Brass orchestra players from children music school (Panevėžys district) were among numerous guests. A group of Georgian people who also came on the narrow gauge railway tried their hand at pulling the rope (joyful Lithuanian tradition).
There was a special place for children games and attractions. Grown-ups contended at the chess, weight lifting championship and other joyful contests. Old acquaintances, friends and families met during the festival in Troškūnai. A country music group Jonis ensured everyone‘s good mood. It is only in small villages where one can feel true and simple values that are worth experiencing. Photo Andrius Repšys
