Train in Honour of Queen Mary
On 23 August, 2009, Lithuanian narrow gauge railway organized a trip dedicated to Queen Mary. For the third year the church festival for Queen Mary in Troškūnai give motif for such a trip. Without doubt, the church festival is related to the sacred picture inside the St. Trinity Church in Troškūnai. The train departed from Panevėžys Railway Station at 9 o’clock. There were 3 passenger carriages: one was taken by musicians, participants of the international folklore festival, the second was allotted for people from different Lithuanian towns and cities and the third was given for German tourists who were interested in the Lithuanian narrow gauge railway. After arriving at Troškūnai Railway Station, passengers learned about the history of the narrow gauge railway in Lithuania and visited the exhibition, which was called St. Mary in the postcards of the 19-20th century. We are grateful to Algirdas Kulys for the exhibits. A bus took the passengers to the church festival in Troškūnai. After a short while a regular train service Anykščiai – Troškūnai arrived at the station. After a short excursion at the station, passengers had a possibility to go the town of Troškūnai, visit the monastery and the church, go down to the cellars of the church accompanied by guide. After the excursion and the Mass, people listened to a wonderful concert of Vilnius university chamber orchestra and the performance of the participants of an international festival.
