Exceptional Trip on a Train, Pulled by Steam Engine
On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Lithuanian narrow gauge railway a running steam engine was brought to Lithuania. For the first time after more than 40 years, passenger had a possibility to travel on a train pulled by historical steam engine. The idea was carried out in cooperation with Estonian Museum Railway and travel agency superkelionės.lt. On 20 September, historical train departed from Anykščiai Railway Station. Representatives of the authorities also took a trip on this exceptional occasion. Among them were the Minister of Transport and Communications Eligijus Masiulis, Members of Parliament Vitas Matuzas, Julius Dautartas, Antanas Baura, local authorities – Mayor of Anykščiai Sigutis Obelevičius, Deputy-mayor Donatas Krikštaponis and a number of people from different Lithuanian cities and towns. A few people from foreign countries were also among the passengers. Old cars next to the train and passengers in retro style clothes gave the festival charm. Several stops were anticipated during the trip. Having departed from Anykščiai, for the first time train stopped at Troškūnai Railway Station. Here passengers learned about the history of Lithuanian narrow gauge railway. Surdegis Station was chosen for the second stop. Here cheese and wine tastings took place. The stop was also necessary for filling the fuel – fire wood. Ladies in smart dresses also gave a hand at work. The third stop was in Raguvėlė. After filling the steam engine with water, the train continued its trip to Panevėžys where citizens were waiting to see the steam engine. Photographer Tomas Stasevičius ?xml:namespace>
